Presentation

Moustapha Mbow is a highly motivated young entrepreneur committed to the common cause. After obtaining his baccalaureate in the G series, he took a course in Business Management and Human Resources, followed by a series of entrepreneurial training courses with RENCJES and ADPME, with a view to creating wealth and jobs for his country.

Through RENCJES, he learned about the Jeunes Agriculteurs program and took part in it to strengthen his capacities in agricultural techniques. In fact, Moustapha has always had a taste for the land. From an early age, he was already putting his hands to work in his uncle’s okra fields.

Training with Jeunes agriculteurs enabled him to forge relationships with potential partners and to draw up his own business plan.

Today, thanks to the program, Moustapha has been able to refine his project idea and bring it to fruition. His project involves growing and marketing okra and watermelon, as well as marketing agricultural products such as millet, corn and sorghum to local product processors and women’s groups.

Despite the lack of financing that weighs heavily on any entrepreneur, Moustapha remains undeterred. On the contrary, he has another strategy for getting around these challenges. “I started by finding a chicken farmer and offering to sell his produce for a commission, which enabled me to buy seeds and start my business this year.”

For the moment, his business employs 3 permanent staff and sometimes around 15 day laborers. He also benefits from the support of partners such as the GDM corporation and the OCG. “I recommend that young people go and get trained in order to acquire knowledge, skills and experience,” he says.

Testimonial

“The program taught me a lot. With the educational expeditions carried out at the Maison du Consommer Local, I was able to talk to the Sales Manager, to whom I offered good prices for millet and maize. I acquired a lot of knowledge during the retreat, especially with the solo challenge exercise. Finally, I was able to revise my business plan. Frankly, I regret not having been able to launch my own business since then!”
