Presentation
The Casamance region has enormous agricultural potential. Every year, tons of fruit rot, which has a major impact on the economy. Reason enough for Mallo Samb, a native of the region, to embark on an entrepreneurial career to put an end to this problem. He decided to set up a fruit processing and marketing project to make the most of the area’s local resources. His ambition is to increase household incomes and significantly reduce poverty. “The lack of exploitation of fruit in my locality prompted me to become an entrepreneur to promote the development of this sector and increase the wealth of my terroir.”
A graduate of the CSFP/IAA vocational diploma in agri-food, Mallo Samb has all the qualities required to succeed in this field. In addition to training in life skills and entrepreneurship, he has acquired more of the knowledge needed to be a good entrepreneur. On the marketing front, he now has better control over his communication with his customers and is able to build up their loyalty. Today, his income has increased and he is able to sell his products.
Mallo also operates in the fast-food sector. The idea here is to save customers time by enabling them to have their orders delivered quickly and cheaply to their homes or offices. For him, this second part of his project represents a real challenge, given the lack of premises and equipment. But this situation is not stopping him from following his dreams to the end. “I’m self-financing this project and I’m confident it will have the desired effect.
Determined to make a success of these two projects, Mallo intends to join the circle of great leaders such as Babacar Ngom of Sédima and Youssou Ndour of Groupe Futurs Médias, who are now his pride and joy. “These leaders took huge risks in their professional careers and knew how to act at the right time. Every day, I draw inspiration from their success and the challenges they had to overcome.”
