Presentation
Demba has a master’s degree in English from Cheikh Anta Diop University and is very involved in community life:
President of ASC Kiniabour from 2006 to 2009 (promotion and development of village youth)
General Secretary of Zone 6A of the ODCAV in Mbour (sports and leisure activities), a position I still hold,
Chairman of the evaluation and monitoring committee of the local consultation framework for producers’ organizations in the rural community of Sindia (CLCOP) (support for GIE and SMEs).
President of the Sindia rural community students’ association (improving living and study conditions for rural community students enrolled at UCAD).
Demba also trained as an educational community monitor with Kamité et associés.
It was this environment that inspired him to set up his own organization: SUCCESS.
Education and training of young people are at the heart of SUCCESS’s work. Demba believes that before talking about employment for young people, we must first focus on their employability and the adequacy of their qualifications in relation to the needs of the job market. He intends to make it a benchmark and to have a very good position in Senegal’s education and vocational training landscape.
Incubated at Tagg-at as part of the Empacto program, Demba benefits from a workspace and appropriate supervision to launch his structure.
Projet
Education and training of young people are at the heart of SUCCESS’s activities:
a “Communication” component, involving the publication of a free newspaper providing information and announcements, and the organization of orientation sessions and student fairs. These services help to solve problems of guidance and information for pupils and students.
Assistance and temporary jobs for students: The aim is to help students on precarious incomes to follow a private vocational training course. This activity involves offering temporary jobs to students, enabling them to generate income through their job offers as a tutor.
home-based tutoring: SUCCES provides parents with tutors and educational mediators to supervise their children at home. They integrate social, religious and civic aspects into their teaching.
- a ‘Holiday camp (edutainment activities)’ component: To make their action sustainable and avoid too many distractions for the children and ensure their safety, they occupy their vacation time with edutainment activities. They organize local day camps in schools (refresher courses, introduction to English and computers, expression techniques in Wolof and French, personal development, sports, games, art workshops and artist encounters, and discovery outings).
a ‘Recovery, schooling and maintenance of street children’ component: SUCCESS aims to restore the deprivation of rights to certain street children. A study has grouped these children into three categories: talibés, runaways for family and safety reasons, and children living with their families on the street. They first try to re-establish contact with their families, then place them in tutoring or sponsorship arrangements with NGOs, embassies, social organizations, businesses and people of good will.
